Dayton Adds New Assistant to Next Year’s Coaching Staff

James Kane will replace Anthony Solomon

University of Dayton men’s basketball coach Anthony Grant announced that James Kane will return as an assistant coach. He will replace Anthony Solomon who according to media reports is expected to be named associate head coach at Notre Dame.

Kane was an assistant at UD from 2017-2018 before leaving for Iowa State where he spent the previous three seasons in the same role. He was an integral part of recruiting Jalen Crutcher to Dayton.

Kane has also been an assistant head coach at Murray State from 2011-2017 and served as a graduate assistant to Coach Grant at VCU from 2006-2007 and served as video coordinator there for two years. He then worked the same for Grant for two seasons at Alabama.

Kane has worked with 10 NBA players including Ja Morant at Murray State and Marial Shayok, the son of former Flyer Makor Shayok.

Dayton went 14-10 last season, losing to Memphis in the first round of the NIT to Memphis.
