Will Colonial Pipeline shutdown impact Miami Valley gas?

A cyber hack shut down a major U.S. pipeline on Friday, leading to fuel shortages in parts of the country, mainly on the East Coast.

But will this impact gas prices or supply in the Miami Valley?

“Ohio is not in the area likely to be impacted,” Cindy Antrician from AAA told News Center 7′s John Bedell. She explained that the Buckeye state is not one that receives their fuel supply from that particular pipeline.

If Ohioans notice any increase in gas prices in the coming weeks, it would more likely be caused by an increase in driving post-quarantine, and the upcoming Memorial Day holiday.

Antrician explained that average gas prices this year compared to last are not an apples-to-apples comparison, as last year, the stay-at home order was in effect.

She did warn, however, that those traveling for Memorial Day or upcoming vacations, should be weary of the fuel situation in other states.

“If you’re planning to travel, some of those areas could be impacted.”
