Michael Wayne Stearns, 47, of the Springtown area, was true to his word, waiting on his porch with his shotgun when deputies arrived, the Star-Telegram of Fort Worth reported. He was arrested without incident by the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, the newspaper reported.

Stearns was booked into the Parker County Jail and charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, KTVT-TV reported.

Stearns’ wife, who was not identified, told deputies she was arguing with her husband on Wednesday at about 4 p.m. CST when he became “irate” and shot her with a .22-caliber handgun as she sat in a chair, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Stearns had called 911 and said that during the argument, he grabbed the weapon from a shelf and shot his wife in the side, Parker County Sheriff Russ Authier told the Star-Telegram.

The woman was taken to an area hospital and treated for her wounds, the newspaper reported.

Stearns remained in the Parker County Jail, the Morning News reported. Bail was set at $500,000.
