NASHVILLE — A Tennessee man wielding a butcher knife around a group of people was fatally shot Friday night after the robbery “prank” being filmed for YouTube went awry, investigators said.
Nashville Metro Police said Timothy Wilks, 20, and a friend were armed with butcher knives as part of a prank when they approached a group of people around 9:30 p.m. near the Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park, WZTV reported.
Police said a member of the group, David Starnes Jr., 23, was not aware of the prank. In self-defense he pulled out a gun and fatally shot Wilks.
Investigators said Wilks and the friend told them they were filming a “prank” for a YouTube video, WSMV reported.
Starnes admitted to investigators he shot Wilks. Starnes was not charged. It is unclear if he had a permit for the gun. The incident remains under investigation.
Other information, including who was with Wilks, has not been released.
