Recall alert: Listeria discovery leads to recall of 230 pounds of smoked fish

Nearly 230 pounds of smoked fish have been recalled after routine testing revealed evidence of listeria, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday.

In a news release, the FDA said that Haifa Smoked Fish of Jamaica, New York was recalling the fish, which was sold in 8-ounce packages under the Haifa Smoked Fish & Caviar label as Turbot Cold Smoked.

Haifa Smoked Fish halted the distribution of the product and said it will continue to investigate what caused the problem, according to the FDA.

No illnesses have been reported due to the consumption of the product.

Turbot Cold Smoked is packaged in clear plastic with a gold board that contains sliced turbot fish. A blue label reads “Haifa Smoked Fish & Caviar Turbot Cold Smoked” and displays a sticker that reads “Lot 246.”

The product was distributed to stores in New York and New Jersey.

The FDA advises that consumers who have this product should return it to the store where it was bought for a full refund.
