WASHINGTON — Check your pantry: A popular savory snack is included in a new recall.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, Missouri-based Frickenschmidt Foods issued a recall Wednesday for nearly 5,800 pounds of ready-to-eat beef sticks that contain wheat but are incorrectly labeled as “gluten-free.”
The recalled 1.5-ounce packages, labeled “High Protein Snack Teriyaki Beef Wicked Cutz Beef Stick,” bear establishment No. M33928 and lot code 113022, 120122 or 012823, according to the news release. The affected products – which were packaged Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and Jan. 28, 2021 – were distributed to retailers nationwide and also sold online, the FSIS said.
The company learned of the problem when the distributor noticed that the products were labeled “gluten-free” even though wheat was included in the ingredient list, the release said. Officials have not received any reports of illness in connection with the recalled items, according to the FSIS.
“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them,” the release said. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
