MONTOGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — A 3-year-old boy died Saturday after getting a hold of a family member’s gun and accidentally shooting himself in the chest, officials said.
Deputies were called to the house in Porter, Texas, around 4:25 p.m. and found the boy suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest, KTRK reported.
“Family and friends had gathered earlier to celebrate the birthday of the three-year-old, and while playing cards, heard a gunshot,” the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on social media.

The boy found a pistol after it fell out of a family member’s pocket, investigators said.
The child was taken to a nearby fire station where he was pronounced dead.
