LAS VEGAS — A man arrested in a stolen car with a severed head inside is facing murder charges, but his attorney argues his client had no idea there was a body in the car.
The attorney representing Eric Holland argued in court that his client may have been “a hapless car thief who just picked the wrong car” and argued the prosecution needed to prove not only that Holland knew a body was in the car, but that he had killed the person, The Associated Press reported.
Holland was arrested on Dec. 23 while driving a truck with the dismembered remains of a man inside. The Clark County coroner told The Associated Press the victim, Richard Miller, died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police said they found a severed head and body parts inside several coolers inside a stolen truck Holland was seen driving, KVVU reported.
Holland’s attorney said his client plans to plead not guilty, The Associated Press reports. Holland was not granted bail, and is scheduled to next appear in court on Jan. 27, CNN reported.
