Anderson, 51, posted on Instagram that he graduated from Howard University Saturday, decades after he dropped out, stating that his son had inspired him to finish his degree and saying that things happen when they are meant to.

Words can’t begin to describe the emotional roller coaster I’m on right now. It’s literally been 30 years in the making. This spring I was finally able to complete the work to graduate from Howard University with a BFA degree from the Chadwick A Boseman College of Fine Arts,” says Anderson in an Instagram post.

People Magazine also says Anderson spoke about plans on getting his degree during an interview with Jimmy Fallon in 2018 and explained why he dropped out in the first place. Anderson told Fallon it was because of financial reasons.

Anderson said his son, Nathan, is one of the moving forces behind him finishing his degree. According to Yahoo! News, Nathan is also an artist, potentially following in his dad’s footsteps and is also a Howard University graduate.

Anderson is known for roles in “Black-ish” and currently in the revamped “Law and Order.”
