Sheriff’s Office looking for suspect after 1 killed, 5 injured in drive-by shooting at vigil in Franklin County Saturday night

FRANKLIN COOUNTY — One woman was killed in a drive-by shooting that left five other people injured in Truro Township. The shooting happened Saturday night during a vigil at a Dollar General on Chatterton Road.

According to our news partners at 10TV, at approximately 7:30 p.m. a dark-colored SUV drove by and opened fire into a small crowd gathered in the parking lot of the Dollar General.

The crowd was holding a vigil for Jarrin Hickman, who was fatally shot at that same Dollar General last year.

Latoya Carpenter, 39, was driving by the store when the suspect opened fire. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said she was struck in the head and crashed her vehicle into the parking lot of an apartment complex near the Dollar General. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the five people who were shot and injured was a 12-year-old.

10TV reported that all five people injured in the shooting were reported to have non-life threatening injuries. Four victims were taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Mount Carmel East and OhioHealth Pickerington with gunshot wounds. One victim was grazed in the leg.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office released a photo of the suspect’s SUV, possibly a Dodge Durango.
