AKRON — Protesters gathered outside Akron City Hall Monday night demanding justice for Jayland Walker as city council held its scheduled meeting virtually, according to CBS affiliate WOIO in Cleveland.
The 25-year-old man was shot to death by Akron Police the night of June 27 in a hail of gunfire as he ran from them after an attempted traffic stop.

The group watched the meeting while some signed up to speak during the comment portion, WOIO reported.
“This is about us, y’all,” said Reverend Raymond Greene of Freedom Bloc. “I just want you to know where the power is at. We’re going to get rid of them. This is what we need... community.”
Judi Hill, Akron chapter of the NAACP, addressed the crowd Monday and said the Walker family is asking for 48 hours of no protests starting Monday night, until the funeral, according to WOIO. Jayland Walker’s funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, July 13.
“I respect her (Jayland Walker’s Mom) wishes,” she said. “For 48 hours after today (Monday), we will not be in the street.”
