South Vienna Elementary students not hurt in bus crash

None of the 19 students were injured aboard the bus rear-ended by a car this afternoon, said Northeastern Local Schools Superintendent John Kronour.

Students on the bus were kindergartners through fifth-graders from South Vienna Elementary School. the children had just been picked up at school and were starting their route home at the time of the crash. A second bus was called, as well as parents. Some parents came to pick up their children. The rest were transferred to another bus to continue home.

The driver only suffered minor injuries. The man was cited, troopers said. He apparently was not paying attention when he rear-ended the bus when it stopped to drop off a student, according to troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Springfield Post.

The driver of a car that rear-ended a Northeastern Local School bus this afternoon only suffered minor injuries.

The crash happened on U.S. 40 east of South Vienna. There were no other injuries, and it’s not clear whether students were aboard the bus.

A Northeastern Local Schools bus this afternoon was involved in a crash.

A white compact car appears to have rear-ended the bus sometime after 3 p.m. on U.S. 40 east of South Vienna.

The driver of the car was taken from the scene by life squad. It’s not clear whether any students aboard the bus were injured.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating.
