Ohio nursing homes must now alert all families should a resident contract Coronavirus

Dr. Acton will sign an order Monday forcing all Ohio nursing homes and long-term care facilities to contact all families within 24 hours, should one resident contract Coronavirus.

This order will also require that these cases and their connection to these facilities be made immediately public. The information will now be available on the Ohio Health Department website.

“If I had a parent needing to go into a nursing home, I’d want to know,” Gov. Mike DeWine said Monday, explaining that it will also help families working to plan long-term care.

The order comes during a surge of cases surrounding these facilities, but Dr. Acton hopes it does not create a stigma.

“It’s not the fault of the nursing homes,” she said. “It’s just so contagious.”
