A visitor at Valley View Memorial Gardens in Xenia said gravestones at the cemetery have been damaged.
He said staff told him heavy machinery used to build a garden on the grounds led to the damage done to the land and gravestones.
Cemetery staff blamed heavy rain and the mud it produced.
In a statement issued late Tuesday afternoon, staff said:
“The company contracted to complete the project did place a barrier around the construction area but, unfortunately, due to the extreme amount of rain we have received this season the barrier did not hold which resulted in mud traveling to a section of the cemetery.”
Staff told WHIO-TV repairs are being made as long as the weather holds and the business apologizes to its customers for any inconvenience.
WHIO-TV’s Monica Castro spoke to the visitor who lodged the complaint.
