MIAMI TOWNSHIP — A person fled from several law enforcement agencies during a vehicle chase, then abandoned their vehicle at the Dayton Mall, causing a foot pursuit Friday overnight.
The Dayton post of Ohio State Highway Patrol initiated a traffic stop at 3:30 a.m. on a person driving the wrong way on state Route 741 near Kingsridge Drive, dispatchers for state troopers confirmed.
As authorities attempted to stop the wrong-way driver, the driver fled from law enforcement towards the Dayton Mall parking lot on Miamisburg Centerville Road, causing a vehicle chase.
State troopers requested aid from the Miami Township Police Department to help stop the suspect, but were unable to while the driver was on the roadway.
The unidentified suspect reached the Dayton Mall parking lot, then abandoned their vehicle, causing officers and deputies to start a foot chase at 3:36 a.m. Authorities searched the area to attempt to find the suspect, however they were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
It is currently unknown why the driver fled from state troopers initially.
The Dayton post of Ohio State Highway Patrol led the investigation into the pursuit.
