What parents should know about bullying | Viral video shines light on issue

Dayton — A recent viral video has put a spotlight on the issue of bullying in schools.

The video shows 9-year-old Quaden Bayles upset saying, “you called me the dumbest kid in the class. I just want to die right now. I just want to bang my head into a glass.”

His mother shared the emotional video after she witnessed an incident of bullying when she came to pick her son up from school.

The boy’s mother said it’s not the first time he’s been bullied and that Quaden has attempted suicide several times.

This kind of bullying is happening across the country, including here in Dayton.

In the state of Ohio, nearly 70 percent of students say they had been bullied, according to a recent survey.

News Center 7’s Josh Jackson, spoke with Dr. Timothy Quinn of Quinn Healthcare about the what should be done if your child is being bullied.

"In the event that someone is being bullied,” says Quinn, “it's very important that the individual notify school officials and if someone witnesses the bullying, they should not delay reporting it."

There are no current federal laws that relate to bullying but all schools are required to have anti-bulling policies in place.
