Victim in wreck at state Route 4 underpass dies

UPDATE @ 10:58 p.m. (June 13): Michelle Porter, the victim in the May 23 single-vehicle accident on North Keowee at the state Route 4 underpass, has died, a relative said Monday night.

Doctors believe Porter, 40, of Englewood, suffered a seizure while driving, the relative, Holly Stachulski said. Porter died today at Miami Valley Hospital, Stachulski said.

Porter had suffered from seizures and had been put on a new medication not too long before the accident, Stachulski said.

Arrangements are pending. The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with burial costs, Stachulski said.

UPDATE @ 12:30 a.m. (May 24): The female victim was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, suffering from severe injuries to her lower extremities in the single-vehicle accident on North Keowee at the state Route 4 underpass, Dayton Sgt. Joseph Setty said.

Dayton fire personnel used the Jaws of Life, a hydraulic spreader, to free the woman from the vehicle left mangled after it slammed into a railroad abutment.

“There was massive damage to the vehicle,” Setty said.

North Keowee was shut down several hours for the traffic accident investigation.

UPDATE @ 10:12 p.m. (May 23): The victim has been freed from the wreckage on North Keowee Street at the state Route 4 underpass and has been taken to a hospital.

The condition of the victim, thought to be a woman, is not known.

Randall Terry, of Germantown, said, “We were driving down Keowee and heard a big boom, looked in the rear view mirror … and the lady hit the center beam for the railroad tracks.”

Said he ran to the car to see if she was all right, but stepped away when he saw gasoline leaking from the car.

We’re waiting for word from Dayton police as to what they’ve found in their preliminary investigation.
