DARKE COUNTY — A semi crash involving another vehicle south of Greenville is blocking traffic and leaving thousands of AES Ohio customers without power Monday evening.

Preliminary investigation revealed a red 2015 Kenworth semi tractor-trailer driven by Kevin Harris 55, of Sunrise Florida was traveling southbound on U.S. Route 127 following a red 2019 Ford EcoSport, driven by Jenny Hawkey 68, of New Madison, the release said.

Hawkey attempted to make a right turn onto Hogpath Road and was struck by the tractor-trailer in the passenger side.

Both vehicles traveled off the right side of the roadway, and the tractor-trailer then struck and knocked down a utility pole knocking out service to thousands of customers.

A power pole was reported to be sitting on top of the trailer of the semi.

About 1,500 AES Ohio customers are currently without power in the area of the crash as of 7:30 p.m.

Hawkey was transported to Wayne HealthCare for possible injuries and Harris was uninjured, the release said.

Emergency dispatch traffic indicated U.S. 127 may be closed for a significant amount of time while AES Ohio crew address issues with power lines.
