Thousands of people showed up to the National Museum of the United States Air Force Saturday morning for their annual marathon.
News Center 7's Malik Perkins was there when the winners crossed the finish line.
Jacob McCubbin was the first person to cross the finish line for the full marathon with a time of two hours and 35 minutes.
“It is extremely challenging. Just the hill right at the start kind of puts your nerves in check. It kind of makes you question your training honestly,” he said.
McCubbin said running in the marathon wouldn’t have been possible without his family’s support.
“Just want to thank my family, my wife and my kids. They have been patient all summer, letting me get runs in,” he said.
Sarah Bishop was the first woman to finish the full marathon with a time of three hours and two minutes. After she crossed the finish line, she met up with her husband and children.
“I want them to grow up knowing they can do anything if they work really hard so I am really happy they were here to see this,” she said.
Bishop knew the marathon would be a challenge, but her training helped her pull through.
“I started fading halfway. It was so hot and humid. I felt everybody else was fading too. I just tried to stay strong and keep pace,” she said.
