MIAMISBURG — Miamisburg police are looking into a felonious assault that took place Saturday night.

Neighbors say a man was hit by a white truck and drug down Pearl Street. He was quickly taken to the hospital where he had to have emergency surgery.

News Center 7′s Taylor Robertson spoke to the man’s wife about everything that happened that night.

The man’s wife, Leeanna Collins, said he’s still in the hospital recovering.

“He told me today ‘Leeanna, I think I saw God.’ I said, ‘Maybe you did, you lost a lot of blood,’” Collins said.

Collins said her family and some of their neighbors were all out setting off fireworks when a white truck came speeding down the street.

She said her next-door neighbor yelled at the truck driver to slow down and that’s when the truck turned around and headed back in the direction he came.

Collins said that’s when her husband Tommy walked up to the passenger side door to speak to the driver who he personally knows.

“Tom reached in to shake his hand and next thing we know Brandon that lives on the other side of me came up and hit his passenger with a wooden type of flashlight,” Collins said.

She said the next thing she knew the driver took off with her husband hanging onto the side of the truck.

“And then Tom is screaming ‘Oh my God, you know who I am please, please,’” she said.

Neighbors said Tommy was hit by the truck, and what makes it worse was he ended up about 100 yards away.

After the incident, neighbors caught a picture of Tommy’s shoes left in the street.

“People were screaming, people were yelling,” Collins said. “There was blood everywhere.”

Once Collins realized it was Tommy, she ran to help.

“That’s when I ran down there, I tried to get him up I couldn’t do it. He was holding his sock, which blood was just gushing out. I thought for sure he was going to die.”

The people who live in the neighborhood said that even though there are stop signs posted up and down the street, they feel there should be more done to keep the neighborhood safe.

One neighbor said he and his wife have been worried for their 12-year-old daughter who watched the whole thing.

“As a parent, it’s just kind of frightening and we’re just trying to be open and honest with her and not hide anything, which is that there are scary people out there and things that happen. You got to be on the lookout and be careful,” said Josh Umbaugh.

He said after Saturday night he’s decided to not let his kids play in the street.

Neighbors did tell police on scene what they saw happen that night and they hope to take their concerns about the speeding to city hall next.

As Tommy continues to recover in the hospital, Miamisburg police will continue to look into what happened on Pearl Street that night.
