In remembrance of Jeff Wellington, who was shot to death on Easter, Friday night's game at Springfield High School was punctuated by a moment of silence and balloon launch before kickoff.
Yellow balloons imprinted with the words "Fly High JW" and his jersey number, 5, were released. Kettering Fairmont was the opponent.
Friday would have been Wellington's 18th birthday. The standout athlete at Springfield was shot outside of the Coventry Village Apartments on North Limestone Street in Springfield. He died hours later at Miami Valley Hospital.
A Springfield teen is charged with aggravated murder and a second person stands indicted on felony charges in the same case, according to the Clark County Prosecutor's Office.
