Springboro substitute teacher put out of school after threatening to shoot student

A Springboro Junior High School substitute teacher, accused of threatening to shoot a student Tuesday, was asked to leave the building and police have been made aware of the incident, Principal Jon Franks told parents and guardians in an email sent this afternoon.

The teacher did voluntarily leave the building when asked to do so, Franks said. The school has not released the teacher’s name.

The teacher recognized the inappropriateness of the comment and apologized, Franks said, and the district has conducted an internal investigation.

According to the investigation, the comment was alleged to have made to a classroom of students during first period and involved some or all of the following words, "If you do not complete this assignment, I will shoot you."

Administrators learned of this information from a student in the class, who had a concern about the comment. Upon learning about this comment, the substitute teacher was immediately removed from the classroom and questioned by administration.
The comment in question was not deemed a credible threat. No weapon was found, no students or staff were harmed, and Springboro Junior High School was not placed on lockdown.

There was no disruption to the school day. Classes continued as scheduled. In the interest of transparency, we wanted our parents to be aware of this incident, Franks said.
Springboro Schools has informed the Educational Service Center, to make them aware of this incident involving the substitute teacher.
"We here at Springboro Junior High School, and across the district, appreciate the willingness of our student, who immediately alerted a staff member, to feel confident in following a "See Something, Say Something" mentality, which is promoted across Springboro Schools."
