Sinclair Community College is mourning the loss of one of its own after a student was killed in a crash in Clark County.

Elvis Kikuba, 21, was studying engineering at Sinclair and had plans of eventually getting his Ph.D., according to an online fundraiser.

The fundraiser said he wanted to become a professor and make the world a better place through engineering.

Kikuba died in a crash last week when he stopped his car on I-70 in Clark County. He was trying to merge into an open lane as the other two were blocked by a previous crash.

The fundraiser’s organizer said Kikuba was from Uganda and is raising money to bring his body back there.

Sinclair released the following statement to News Center 7:

“The entire Sinclair community is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of student Elvis Kikuba. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Elvis’ family, friends, faculty, and fellow students. Members of Sinclair’s Student Affairs and counselors are offering grief support and services to students, faculty, and staff during this difficult time. Sinclair representatives are also working with Elvis’ family to provide support.”

The crash remains under investigation.
