Dayton police: Pickup truck jumps median guardrail in U.S. 35 West crash

UPDATE @ 6:45 p.m.: U.S. 35 West in Dayton is back open after a multiple-vehicle crash near Abbey Avenue caused police to shut down the highway.

There has been no word from police about whether the driver who jumped the median guardrail would be cited.

A multiple-vehicle accident on U.S. 35 West near Abbey Avenue has caused police to shut down the highway.

The accident, believed to involve at least three vehicles, was reported just after 5 p.m. and as many as three people have been taken to hospitals. Their injuries are said to be non-life threatening, Dayton police said.

According to the preliminary investigation, a pickup truck headed east on U.S. 35 apparently jumped the median and slammed into a small car and a pickup truck hauling mulch. Much of that mulch was spilled onto the highway in the collision.

U.S. 35 West will remain shut down at Abbey Avenue at least another 30 minutes, police tell us.
