Kiosk offering healthy produce to be introduced at Dayton Children's this week

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for Wednesday to reveal a fresh produce kiosk to be stationed in the main lobby at Dayton Children’s Hospital, 1 Children’s Plaza.

The kiosk will be open every Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 2 p.m.

It was created through a partnership involving Dayton Children’s, Hall Hunger Initiative, and Homefull to help people without access to healthy food.

“Dayton Children’s mission is the pursuit of optimal health for every child within our reach -- not just those who come through our doors with illness or injury. By partnering with Homefull in a variety of ways, we can provide that boost toward optimal health for young people in our community by giving their skills, talent and hard work a place to take root and grow,” said Deborah Feldman, Dayton Children’s president and CEO.

The Homefull Fresh Produce Kiosk will offer produce from Homefull’s urban farm and other local growers.

“Homefull is excited to bring produce to Dayton Children’s patients and employees, especially with multiple ways to purchase the produce, including SNAP/EBT and employee payroll deductions. This is a way to help people living in food deserts access to affordable, fresh produce. The purchases will also support our programs, especially our workforce development, giving our clients jobs, and furthers our mission to end homelessness,” said Tina Patterson, Homefull CEO.

The kiosk also accepts other types of payments, including cash, credit/debit, FVRx Vouchers, and Produce Perks.

“Given that almost a third of our families with children struggle with food hardship, I can see no more appropriate place to assist those in need of healthy and affordable produce than at Dayton Children’s Hospital. We at the Hall Hunger Initiative are honored to support our partners at Homefull and Dayton Children’s in making this opportunity for our neighbors possible,” said Ambassador Tony Hall, Founder of the Hall Hunger Initiative.
