2 Warren Correctional Institution employees hospitalized after exposure to unknown substance

WARREN COUNTY — UPDATE @ 3:30 p.m.:

Two employees of the Warren Correctional Institute were taken to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown after they reported illnesses from an exposure to an unknown substance, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol spokesperson.

Fire crews and medics were called to the prison on state Route 63 in Warren County after receiving reports of a chemical exposure in the mailroom with two people down around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The staff members were taken to the hospital for precautionary measures after reporting symptoms, the spokesperson said.

State troopers described the substance as a “unknown liquid substance.”

The Ohio State Highway Patrol will investigate the incident.
