UPDATE @5 a.m. 5/10/18

Officers are working to determine if anyone was held hostage inside a vehicle involved in a pursuit that started in Huber Heights early Thursday morning.

Around 2 a.m., Huber Heights police received a call from a clerk saying they had overheard people talking about a planned robbery. The clerk gave a description of the vehicle the suspects were in to officials, who then spotted the truck in the area of Executive Boulevard and Brandt Pike. A traffic stop was attempted, but the vehicle fled, said Montgomery County Sheriff Chief Deputy Rob Streck.

A pursuit ensued, leading officials down westbound I-70 to southbound I-75, with the suspects then getting off on Wagner Ford Road. The pursuit ended in Harrison Twp. on N. Dixie Drive at Siebenthaler Avenue when the vehicle ran out of gas.

As officers approached, they were advised there was a firearm in the car and people were being held against their will inside the car, he said.

A perimeter was set up, a UDF was evacuated, SWAT was called to the scene and negotiations began.

Streck said two males and a female were inside the car, who are all believed to have been high on meth. One of the males, believed to be the driver, exited the vehicle early in the standoff. Just before 4:30 a.m., the female and second male came out.

“It may have helped once they started coming off that,” said Streck. “Maybe they started thinking more reasonably.”

It’s unknown if anyone was actually being held hostage.

Charges are pending.

The Huber Heights Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office are handling the case.
