Prosecutor’s Office: Man offered rides then raped victims

Suspect already facing sex charges in another case

MONTGOMERY COUNTY — A man already indicted for forcing a woman into a vehicle in what police described as a violent sexual assault in September is now facing more charges after three additional victims came forward, prosecutors said.

Shawn Holmes, 39, was indicted Thursday on five counts of rape, six counts of kidnapping and a single count of attempted rape, an indictment showed.

“As part of the investigation that came from the October case, three additional victims were identified,” said Greg Flannagan, spokesman for the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office. “In these cases, the defendant would stop and offer the victim a ride, then he would take them somewhere and rape them.”

Holmes was already in jail after being arrested out of state in October. His arrest came two months after he was charged in case linked to a sex assault reported in the 700 block of South Smithville Road.

According to an affidavit filed for the September case in Dayton Municipal Court, in the fall the victim reported the suspect grabbed her, “forcing her into the back seat of his vehicle,” and then “drove her to an unknown location refusing to let her out of the vehicle.”

The victim reported Holmes then “proceeded to get in the back seat with her,” “threatened to harm her.” The document said, “She told him to stop and he became more enraged until he finally took her back to the area where she was removed from.”

Holmes is expected to be arraigned on the new charges on Tuesday.
