New Miami Twp. wedding venue too loud, residents say

The new Stoney Hill Bed and Breakfast has been a popular new venue for wedding receptions.

The lights, music and other celebratory fanfare is not enjoyed by some of its neighbors, however.

One resident Matt Turton, spoke to township trustees Tuesday night, and with News Center 7 reporter Sean Cudahy Thursday night about his concerns, particularly from Saturday’s festivities.

“Part of the wedding party actually walked down to my fences, pet our horses, and, certainly interrupted our evening with the advancement across the fence. My wife instructed them to please leave,” he said.

Darren Powlette, 50, the owner of the facility at 7757 Upper Miamisburg Road, faces a misdemeanor Miami Twp. zoning code violation in an agricultural district. He pleaded not guilty last week in Miamisburg Municipal Court, where he is next scheduled to appear June 25, court records show.

Powlette’s attorney could not be reached for comment.

Turton said he doesn’t want to ruin anyone’s happy day, but just wants the peace and quiet he sought by moving to that part of Miami Twp.

“I have nothing against individuals building items out here that are for this community and rural in nature —agricultural — but I don’t really want parties 200 deep in my backyard, and blaring music every Friday, Saturday or weekday.”

The bed and breakfast’s website advertises the property has a farmhouse and barn “providing the perfect country haven to celebrate any event, big or small.”

According to court records, Powlette is accused of violating Section 801 of the Miami Twp. maintenance and/or resolution code, which defines principal permitted uses for properties zoned as an agricultural district.

Most residents at the complex seem to think Lawrence was killed while sitting on a couch, something police did not confirm Monday.  They’re not sure why Simpson would shoot him but say, if he did, it just doesn’t make any sense.
