“I glanced up out there and I saw somebody running. I was like, ‘What is going on?’” Jennifer Corbett from Huber Heights said.
Corbett says she saw two teenage boys run onto her property and steal her rainbow flag and welcome sign.
“My oldest son was coming down the street and saw somebody running from the house,” Corbett said. “I said, ‘Follow them, they just stole from us.”
Corbett says her son got their license plate and a description of the teens.
Corbett grew up in Huber Heights, and says her signs spread peace and love.
“I still want to be visible. I still want people to know that this is a safe place, or that I’m a safe person,” Corbett said.
Corbett filed a police report. She said she was conflicted on pressing charges, but when she asked police about if the teens regretted their actions, she decided to follow through.
“He said, ‘Not at all. Not a bit. Nothing,’” Corbett said.
Corbett’s house wasn’t the only target, Kayle Finley also had items taken.
“I feel so violated,” Finley said.
Finley says she hopes this isn’t a sign of things to come.
“This isn’t okay, and if this is the beginning of maybe something more nefarious, that we want to make sure we’re heard. We are activists and loud about how we feel,” Finley said.
Both teens are currently facing charges related to the thefts. Corbett says she plans on appearing at their court date.
