Prescription drugs can impair driving

Impaired driving is caused by more than drinking alcohol, says AAA.

In a recent study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, three-quarters of drivers over 55 years old take medications that can impair driving, yet only about 1-in-4 were aware that the prescriptions drugs that help them could impair their driving.

News Center 7 is following the investigation of a church van involved in a fatal crash, one that may have been caused by impaired driving. According to the crash report from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the driver of the van, told Middletown paramedics she had been “taking Vicodin and Adderall all day”.

Reporter Adam Marshall is checking now with the Ohio State Highway Patrol to talk about prescription drug use and will have our top story at 6 pm tonight.
