Prayers said for UD student in St. Patrick’s Day fall

UPDATE @ 4:31 p.m. (March 23): Prayers were said for UD student Sasha Pavlenko, who was injured in a fall from a balcony during St. Patrick's Day celebrations.

Her family issued the following statement:

“We are most grateful to the campus community for their support, the doctors, nurses and other members of the Miami Valley Hospital team for their skill and care, and the many family friends who have been there with us every step of the way.”

According to the family, Pavlenko suffered serious injuries.

About 60 students, faculty and staff joined her family at the Immaculate Conception Chapel on campus to offer prayers for her healing.

The family has asked for continued prayers from the community and respect for their privacy, university officials said.

The University of Dayton student injured in a fall from a second-story balcony during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations is Sasha Pavlenko, 20, university officials said.

Pavlenko suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to university officials.

Witnesses said there were thousands of students in the area outside where the incident happened.

Tuesday night, the campus community held a prayer service at Immaculate Conception Chapel.

“Her family said they deeply appreciate the support they have received from the campus community for Sasha, and ask for continued prayers for her,” university officials said in a prepared statement.
