Police: Stolen handgun recovered in Sidney pursuit may have been used in police shooting

SIDNEY — A stolen handgun found inside a car following a high-speed chase through Sidney Saturday afternoon may be been used in a past officer-involved shooting, Sidney police said.

Four people, including a 16-year-old driver from Cincinnati, were taken into custody after the car spun out into a bean field in the area of State Route 706 and Tawawa Maplewood Road.

“The driver and two other passengers took off running from the vehicle in which Sidney K-9 Officer Kilo gave chase,” Sidney police said in a statement. “All three quickly stopped running and complied and were placed under arrest. A fourth passenger who remained with the vehicle was also apprehended.”

The adults arrested were identified as Jacon Breaton, 18, of Covington, Kentucky; Keonte Devon Ontoni Hardy, 21, of Cincinnati; and Raul Armando Vega Jr., 18 of Cincinnati.

In addition to the stolen handgun, officers also found a large amount of fentanyl and cash.

“After a further investigation it was found that the same vehicle was involved in an armed robbery in the Cincinnati area of Delhi Township earlier in the day,” police said. “After contacting several of the agencies involved, it was also found that the stolen handgun might have been used in a past officer involved shooting by one of the suspects.”

The chase started around 3:45 p.m. when a Sidney police officer tried to stop the car on northbound I-75 for an equipment violation. The car exited the highway at the Michigan Street exit and police chased it through downtown Sidney. The car eventually left downtown heading east on State Route 29 before crashing.

The suspects face a range of drug charges. Vega had an active warrant out of Hamilton County for felonious assault.
