Plans for 100+ acre park in Greene County takes next steps

BEAVERCREEK — A new city park could be coming to Beavercreek.

Beavercreek City Council approved a master plan for the city’s newest and largest park Monday night.

Spring House Park, a 148-acre park, would be located along Grange Hall Road between Patterson and Shakertown Roads.

The city purchased the land after being awarded $738,000 in grants from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The city matched the grant using park fees.

The park would include natural areas, unpaved and paved hiking trails, playgrounds, picnic shelters, a splash pad, a dog park, disc golf, pickleball courts, multi-sport fields, basketball courts, an outdoor fitness area, an archery area, an overlook shelter and fire pit, event space, retention pond with fishing docks, and restrooms, according to a city spokesperson.

“The park will also connect and expand recreational trails in the city, and include a spring house shelter as part of the park’s namesake,” the spokesperson said.

Kim Farrell, parks superintendent, said the master plan was created to “reflect the community” and was based on public input.

The cost to develop the master plan for this park is estimated to be approximately $35 million. A city spokesperson said around $17 million of that would be for infrastructure, such as preparing the land for development and ensuring necessary utilities are in place.

Since this will be a new park, the city’s current park levy won’t support the development and operations of Spring House Park. Because of that, the city does not have the necessary funds to develop and maintain the park at this time.
