PIQUA — UPDATE @ 5:55 PM

A Piqua man is in the hospital after hit by a car Friday night.

Blake Curtis, 26, turned himself in to police Monday morning and faces a felonious assault charge.

According to police Curtis went to Matt Gambill’s home and was banging on the door trying to get in. Curtis left and the family called 911 to report the disturbance and during that call is when the alleged felonious assault occurred.

Curtis has an estranged relationship with the Gambill’s daughter, who was not home at the time.

The family declined to comment at this time but Matt’s son Kyle was willing to share his Facebook posts of the event saying in part, “Not only did [Curtis] run [Matt] over, but [Curtis] got out of the car, stood over his near lifeless body, and began punching [Matt] in the head,” Kyle wrote.

“Thank God my mother and Dave (the Gambill’s neighbor) were able to intervene,” Kyle added.

Kyle said that his father is continues to be evaluated and is scheduled to have “major leg surgery.”

Kyle wrote that his father is “At great risk for having his left shine and below amputated.”

“Anyone that knows my father realizes how devastating this potentially is for him. He is super active and an avid runner.”

Police thank the public for the help and interest this story generated over the weekend crediting that persistence that led to Curtis turning himself in to police Monday morning.

Kyle thanked everyone for the prayers, love, and support and that his dad appreciates it and as of Sunday evening Matt was much more alert and aware of what was going on and happy to be alive.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with Gambill’s recovery.
