TIPP CITY — A person is displaced after firefighters responded to a duplex apartment fire in Tipp City Monday morning.

Multiple fire departments were called to battle a fire at the 700 block of Cheyenne Place at 8:13 a.m., according to a Tipp City Fire spokesperson.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke conditions inside and the fire was pushing out of the kitchen and into the attic with smoke visible. The occupant of the apartment was not inside at the time of the fire.
Crews also had to awaken and remove the resident next door.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and ventilate the building. Investigators say the fire was unintentional and probable cause is stovetop burner in the on position, the spokesperson.
Estimated damages is a total of $50,000. This includes $40,0000 to the property and $10,000 to the contents. The resident of that apartment is displaced due to fire and smoke damage.
Firefighters say they did not locate working smoking detectors inside the apartment.
