The checkpoint will be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat alcohol related injury and fatal crashes, according to OSHP.

The OVI checkpoint, which is funded by federal grant funds and is designed to deter and intercept impaired drivers, is a partnership between the OSHP, Tipp City Police Department and the Miami County Sheriff's Office.

Another checkpoint in Dayton will be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the 2200 block of North James H. McGee Boulevard between Gettysburg Avenue and Philadelphia Drive.

The Butler County O.V.I. Task Force will also conduct an OVI checkpoint from 10 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m Saturday on U.S. 127 north at Walnut Street in the city of Hamilton.

Another sobriety checkpoint will be in Butler County on Saturday. The time and location will be released Saturday.

The Butler County O.V.I Task Force is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation/National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

The location of OVI checkpoints is required by law to be released to the public.

“The first and perhaps the most important requirement for the establishment of a sobriety checkpoint is that the site of the check must have a long term history of alcohol-related crashes and/or incidents of impaired driving,” according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The release of a location helps to focus the public’s attention on the problem area.
