Springfield woman killed in crash on I-70 in Clark County

MAD RIVER TWP., Clark County — A woman was killed in a late-night crash Wednesday on Interstate 70 in Clark County, according to state troopers.

Lanesha Banta, 28, of Springfield, was identified as the driver killed in the crash, reported on I-70 near Enon Road in Mad River Twp. around 10:50 p.m., investigators said in a media release.

An initial investigation found the SUV that Banta was driving went off the right side of the road and crashed into a wooded area. A semitrailer was also hit during the crash, investigators said.

Banta was partially ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, state troopers said.

The two people inside the semitrailer were not injured in the crash.

State troopers are investigating potential factors in the crash and are working to determine if excessive speed or impairment contributed.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says this is the twenty-fourth fatal crash in Clark County this year. Thirteen of those victims were not wearing a seatbelt.
