DAYTON — One person is dead and at least two others were injured in a head-on collision Thursday afternoon involving a four-door sedan and a minivan, Dayton police Lt. Andrew Gillig said.

The person killed and one of the injured were in the sedan, which was believed to have been trying to pass other vehicles in the 2600 block after crossing the yellow lines, Gillig said. Speed was a factor, he said, because of how wide spread the accident scene was.

One person from the minivan, which was headed south on Old Troy Pike, suffered non-life threatening injuries, the lieutenant said.

Both of the injured have been taken to a hospital. Their conditions were not known.

Gillig said Old Troy Pike would be closed at least another 90 minutes for the investigation and the removal of the vehicles and crash debris.

A Montgomery County coroner’s investigator was dispatched soon after the report of the two-vehicle crash, which Gillig said police were dispatched to about 4:45 p.m.

Traffic on Old Troy Pike was blocked in both direction for hours as medics were dispatched to the accident initially.
