Tilly and her babies are “thriving” and receiving routine checkups from the keepers.
Female otters are the sole caretakers of the pups, so Wintson is currently separated from them.
“Our team is beyond proud of Tilly for instinctively providing exceptional care and nurturing her little ones,” the zoo says.
The pups will learn to swim in a small pool and be introduced to Winston before making their exhibit debut in spring.
According to the zoo, female otters are pregnant for about two months, but their fertilized eggs remain dormant for several months.
“This process helps ensure the litter arrives during winter and spring, giving them the best chance to survive in their natural habitats,” the zoo says.
