LAS VEGAS, Nevada — A Las Vegas police officer is facing charges in connection to the ‘unexpected’ death of a K-9.

Clark County School District Police Department K-9 Officer James Harris, 54, is facing two misdemeanor charges related to leaving an animal unattended in a vehicle and failing to provide proper air, food, shelter, or water to an impounded animal, CBS Affiliate KLAS in Las Vegas reported.

The charges stem from an investigation that began in November 2024 following the unexpected death of CCSDPD K-9 Marley, KVVU-TV in Las Vegas reported.
K-9 Marley, a 5-year-old black American Labrador retriever “passed away unexpectedly” on Nov. 14 2024 after he was taken to a local animal hospital for medical attention and reported deceased, according to the department in a Facebook post.
Harris was employed as a K-9 officer with CCSDPD since January 2003, KLAS reported.
He has been assigned to stay home with pay, KVVU-TV reported.
