BELLEFONTAINE — The Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a non-injury plane crash that happened in Logan County Tuesday evening.
OSHP says the crash happened at around 4:10 p.m. at the Bellefontaine Regional Airport.
A Diamond DA42 twin engine airplane, piloted by certified flight instructor, Dereck Pristas age 37 of Xenia, and a student pilot, Matthew Schroeder, age 60 of Grand Rapids, Michigan, crashed after their plane lost power while departing from the airport, OSHP said.
After losing power to both the right and left engines, the pilots were able to take corrective action and stabilize the plane.
Neither Pristas or Schroeder were injured in the crash.
“The pilots were able to land the plane several thousand feet past the runway. The plane struck a fence and came to rest at the edge of the airport property,” a release from OSHP said.
OSHP was assisted at the scene by the Bellefontaine Fire Department, Bellefontaine EMS, and Bellefontaine Police Department.
The crash is still under investigation .
