As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, this all started Sunday morning in Sidney as an officer checked out a parking lot behind the Travel Inn and the Motel 6. He saw a suspicious pickup truck in the Chipotle lot, backed up to take a look, and the truck took off.

The officer took two minutes to catch up with the pickup. The driver continually switched lanes at high speeds, then things got much worse.

10 miles down the road, the pickup’s driver slowed down and used an emergency cut-through to cross to the northbound lanes, but he was headed south. One Sidney officer followed the driver the wrong way. At one point, the pickup goes clear to the left as drivers pass on his right.

A bit later he drives right toward a big rig, then swerves to the right.

The Sidney officer would exit the highway at the Benchwood Road exit.

The driver doesn’t slow down as you see the pickup flash past Miami County and Troy officers in the northbound lanes. He goes through the middle of a bunch of stopped cars and at one point goes all the way left.

The chase continues into downtown Dayton.

The driver does a massive U-turn near Stewart Street to get onto the 35 westbound ramp. He exits on James H. McGee Boulevard. There he runs several red lights, but at Gettysburg Avenue, an unsuspecting driver with a green light broadsides the pickup. The driver slips away as officers run to the pickup.

A West Carrollton police drone is called in and spots the man hiding behind a tree. Officers move in all around to take him into custody. They handcuff him and walk him back to a waiting cruiser. They handcuff him and walk him back to a waiting cruiser.

That driver has been placed in the Miami County Jail. Troy police are talking with prosecutors about charges, and Sidney police may also speak to Shelby County prosecutors about charges there.

We will continue updating this story.
