Shelby County man killed in crash on Ohio 47; Other driver in fair condition

SHELBY COUNTY — UPDATE 8/3/2018 @ 6:15 a.m: The driver that was transported to Miami Valley Hospital after being trapped in a vehicle involved in a fatal crash on Ohio 47 Thursday morning is listed in fair condition, hospital officials confirm.

Paul A. Monnin, 43, was the driver of a truck that was struck by a pickup truck driven by Dailan D. Day, 24, at the intersection of Hardin-Wapakoneta Road.

Day’s truck rolled and crashed into a house at the intersection, ejecting him, deputies said.

Day was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two children were also injured in the crash, but deputies did not release the severity of their injuries.

UPDATE @ 10:55 a.m.:

The driver ejected and killed in a two-vehicle crash on Ohio 47 and Hardin-Wapakoneta Road has been identified as Dailan D. Day, 24, of Lockington, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

The other driver, identified as Paul A. Monnin, 43, of Versailles, was trapped and injured after the crash.

Monnin’s condition was not released, but he is listed as a patient at Miami Valley Hospital, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Two children were also injured in the crash, but deputies did not release the severity of their injuries.

An initial investigation found the pickup truck driven by Day, traveling north on Hardin-Wapakoneta Road, ran a stop sign and crashed into Monnin’s truck, traveling east on Ohio 47.

Day’s truck rolled and crashed into a house at the intersection, ejecting him, deputies said. Day was pronounced dead at the scene.

FIRST REPORT:

One person is dead and three others were injured after a crash involving two pickup trucks on Ohio 47 in Shelby County Thursday morning, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of Ohio 47 and Hardin-Wapakoneta Road around 6:10 a.m. on reports of a serious crash with multiple injuries.

Deputies said an initial investigation found a red pickup truck, traveling north on Hardin-Wapkoneta Road, ran a stop sign at the intersection, crashing into a silver pickup truck traveling on Ohio 47.

The crash caused the red pickup truck to roll, ejecting the driver. The truck came to a rest after hitting a house, deputies said.

The driver of the red truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim was not released, pending notification of family.

Two juveniles in the red truck and the driver of the silver truck were also injured in the crash and transported to area hospitals for treatment. Deputies said the injuries range from severe to minor, but did not indicate which victims sustained which injuries.

Dense fog was reported in the area at the time of the crash, however deputies said it was unknown if limited visibility was a factor.

Ohio 47 is blocked at the intersection with Hardin-Wapakoneta Road for the investigation. An estimated time for the intersection to reopen was not available.
