Missing Yellow Springs woman found safe

YELLOW SPRINGS — A missing elderly woman has been found safe in Yellow Springs.

Margaret “Peg” Champney, 87, was located Wednesday morning in the East Hyde Road area.

A medical crew is checking Champney for injuries, according to Greene County Sheriff's Office dispatchers.

Champney was alert, talking and able to walk with assistance, said the sheriff’s office.

Greene County Sheriff’s deputies used rescue dogs, drones and a helicopter Tuesday night to try to find Champney, but it was eventually called off due to poor lighting conditions and dangerous terrain.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol dispatched a helicopter out of Columbus to assist with the search.

A search team found a jacket with a cell phone inside in an open field.

The sheriff’s office had asked residents in the of East Hyde Road near the Robert P. Eastman Covered Bridge to check their properties for Champney.
