DAYTON — A Miamisburg man pleaded guilty today to attempting to coerce a minor while registered as a sex offender.
Steven Smith, 48, solicited more than 170 minors online through nine different online dating profiles. According to his plea in U.S. District Court, Smith created the profiles with the names “Sammy” and “Shaw.” He received sexually explicit images from at least 21 users who identified themselves as minors. Smith also sent out nude images of himself to at least 70 users.

Smith communicated with an undercover FBI agent posing as a minor from April 2020 through October 2020. During this time, he requested nude images from the agent multiple times. Additionally, Smith sent nude images of himself to the undercover agent.
According to court documents, Smith also discussed meeting with the undercover agent to engage in sexually explicit conduct. Smith went as far to send the undercover agent $75 through Cash App to buy a one-way bus ticket to Ohio.
Smith was previously convicted of one count of rape of a child in 1994.
The parties involved in Smith’s case have recommended a sentence of 25 years in prison.
