Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs went back month by month and looked at the number of tornados for the state of Ohio and Miami Valley.
For the month of January, there were zero across the state and Miami Valley.
That number increased for both in February as there were five confirmed tornadoes across the state of Ohio, three across the Miami Valley. Vrydaghs says typically in February there are zero tornadoes across the state of Ohio.
In March, there should be one tornado on average across the state. This year, there were six across the state, one across the Miami Valley.
Vrydaghs says we typically have three tornadoes for the month April. So far to start April this year, there have been six total tornadoes across the state, all here in the Miami Valley.
Normally, we average four tornadoes this time of the year across the state. So far in 2023, there have been 17 total tornadoes, 10 across the Miami Valley.
Vrydaghs says the normal average number of tornadoes we should see across the state of Ohio for the entire year is 21.
