Miami County prepares for second doses for group 1A, begin vaccinating group 1B

MIAMI COUNTY — Vaccine distribution began in Miami County without members of the 1-A Group having to wait in lines. County officials are expecting that to change when they begin to vaccinate the 1-B Group in the coming weeks.

Miami County Health Commissioner, Dennis Propes said that members of the 1-A Group started receiving the vaccine on Dec. 22 at a clinic within the county building. Next week, officials will begin ordering second doses.

Propes expects the begin vaccinating those who fall into the 1-B Group in the coming weeks. That group includes people over 65, those that work in schools and people with developmental disabilities. When that starts, officials expect to see more people waiting in lines to get the vaccine and will have to move their clinic sites.

“Obviously once we get into those larger population groups that’s going to be more of a challenge,” Propes said. “So we’ll be looking at, we’ll probably do less work here at the health department, and start moving to offsite clinic locations.”
