MERCER COUNTY — The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community about a new scam targeting people by using the sheriff’s phone number.
According to the sheriff’s office, the scammer will tell the victim that that they have a Class C misdemeanor warrant from the agency for missing a court hearing that they were subpoenaed to as an expert witness.
They will then request payment through Apple Pay.
The sheriff’s office is reminding people they will not call with regard to warrants or ever require payment be made through Apple Pay.
