NORTHRIDGE — Those in need of a helping hand received just that on Tuesday.
The Foodbank partnered with Caresource and Dayton Children’s Hospital to host food distribution events around the Miami Valley. Today’s event found a man who has beens struggling to have enough food throughout the pandemic.
Tuesday’s food distribution took place at the Dixie Twin Drive-In, where people lined up all afternoon hoping to get a helping hand.
Ted Williams is a senior citizen surviving on a fixed income. He said, “The need is needy. We are the needy.”
Williams said the pandemic caused him to fall on hard times.
“This is the first time I’ve been here at this one, but they did really good. They helped me. They really helped,” William said.
Patrice Phillips said she also fell on hard times due to the pandemic. “I have no food. I have no way of getting food.”
The Foodbank typically hosts 3 mass food distribution events each year, and recently realized a need for more.
Lee Lauren Truesdale, Chief Development Officer at the Foodbank said, “This is our first year doing mini mass distributions and we have six planned so far from now until fall.”
According to Truesdale, there’s an increase in need, both because of COVID, but also because summer is just a really difficult time for families.
“High cooling bills, kids are home from school, extra child care, extra food expenses- that starts to add up for families and even for seniors,” Truesdale said.
The next of these mini distribution events is planned for Aug. 10.
